After a long break from U.S. market the 2019 Ford Ranger is finally back on road with its iconic nameplate. The end to this break has come, because this 4-vehilier '2019 Ford Ranger' has debuted the market once again. And it looks a lot more like T6 model the world had owning from years but a some more essential updates and changes.
Back around 2011, Ford Ranger smashed American's mid-size trucks, overtaking hearts of truck lover and defeating trucks like Dodge Dakota and Chevrolet Colorado. 2011 Ford Ranger was an small, rough, tough, cheap and simple truck. But after 5 years, Ranger is back now.
Now let's get straight to numbers. According to press release of Ford, the engine comes with an option of 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline=four. As company hasn't released any figures about power or torque, it's enough to mention Ford's Mustang's 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine makes 310 horses torque of 350 lb-ft, so it wouldn't be surprising if Ford Ranger's specs were similar. This much power will be sent through Ford's 1--speed automatic, as we've also seen in the new Mustang and F-150.
2019 Ranger is based on global Ranger T6's chassis, referring to - there will be a ladder frame under the Sheetmetal, a double-wishbone independent suspension setup up front and a leaf sprung solid rear axle .
Coming to off-road features, 2019 Ranger offers an electronic rear locker, a low range equipped transfer-case, Terrain Management System to tune the traction control for different drive surfaces, skid plates, "off-road-tuned" shocks, and an totally new option called Trail Control, which Ford describes as basically off-road cruise control.
Trim levels are fairly basic; there’s an XLT model sitting between a base XL and a top-line Lariat, which can be had with a Chrome or Sport appearance package, or with an FX4 Off-Road package (which adds many of the aforementioned off-road features).
Ford says the exterior styling, chassis and powertrain were designed specifically for customers in the North American market, but to be honest, the truck looks a lot like the T6 the rest of the world has had for quite a while now. And while it definitely looks good, I guess I was hoping for the triumphant return of the legendary Ranger to bring a unique look.
